For this weeks Free Inquiry post, I wanted to try to connect it to the nature theme we looked at during last week’s class. To do that I started by finding a website that listed some of the animals that live on Vancouver Island. Then I tried to find an origami pattern for a couple of the animals.

In the Water

Fish- Salmon

For this project I first tried this video How To Make Origami Salmon, however I found it too difficult and so I switched to an easier video MAKE AN EASY ORIGAMI PAPER SALMON. However the easier video was also really difficult to follow, as there were many steps where their hands were covering the steps, or the step was just confusing, and I ended up having to rewatch some steps multiple times. In the end, I think some of the steps I did wrong were as I didn’t end up with a top part like in the video, but I am happy with my creation nonetheless.

Sea Otter

For this project I found this YouTube video Tutorial for Origami Sea Otter designed by Keiji Kitamura which at first thought was fairly easy, but when I got to the part to make the otters head, I got very confused. I had to rewatch that clip at least 8 times before I could figure out what the person in the video was doing. I eventually figured it out though, and ended up with a pretty cute otter.

Whale

This project I found from YouTube tube How To Make An Origami Whale , was very difficult for me as a lot of the folds didn’t have a guideline of how far to go, and it had a lot of more difficult folds. What I found helpful was watching a step until the end to see what it was supposed to look like, so I had a better idea of what I was trying to do. Sometimes I would fold something the wrong way, and later on I would notice something wasn’t working right so I went back in the video and had to take a couple steps apart on my project.

On Land

Black Bear

For this project I followed the Youtube video Origami Bear. However, I didn’t have any black paper, so I used purple. During this project, there were some steps that I don’t think I did entirely right, but it still turned out pretty well anyway.

Deer

For this project I followed the Youtube video Easy Origami Deer. This was a two paper project and I ran out of the first pattern of paper, resulting in an interesting looking final product! This design was easier to follow for me as it started with a bird base, however there were some steps where I didn’t realize more than one part was being folded and I had to go back a couple steps to fix it.
